Advertise More Effectively
With Your Ad Trackers

Another week has passed since the last article, "Use The Ad Tracker In Your TrafficWave Account", and we have more results. It's now time to start reviewing the results our ad trackers are giving us, so that we can advertise more effectively.

Keep in mind that one of the main reasons to use any ad tracking system, is to find out which resources are responsive, what ads are working, etc.

When you spend your time and money on advertising, no matter what it is, you want to make sure that your advertising as effectively as possible. Why spend time and money on advertising. Whether it's the ads you write and/or the resources (safelists, text ad exchanges, traffic exchanges, etc.), you want to get the best results possible, and the best way to do that is to evaluate as many variables of your advertising.

What Is Your Ad Tracking Telling You?

To make your advertising as effective as possible, you need to know:

  • Which ad is pulling the best results
  • Which advertising resource is more responsive

Which website, splash page and/or capture page that you send the prospects seems to be getting viewed the most and/or getting clickthrus, etc.

As I said in the last article, this is not rocket science BUT it is SERIOUS business, and ad tracking is a tool that you NEED in order to advertise effectively!

For the purpose of this series of articles, we are using the ad trackers in TrafficWave and promoting TrafficWave.

In the last article, I showed you the results of the resources that I used to advertise an ad. I also showed you the ad, and where which capture page the link went to. I only used one subject line that I also used as the one-line text ad in the text ad exchanges.

In this article, we're going to see the results of those sources, plus analyze what the results mean.

I continued to use the same resources, and promoted thru them at the same time. I varied my advertising times, i.e. morning, afternoon, evening, weekdays, weekends, etc., but used all the resources at the same time period.

What I did find out is that Friday and Saturday evenings and nights did not bring as many results as advertising Sunday evening thru Thursday. I'm currently very busy on Sundays and Wednesdays, so I don't get as much time to do my advertising on those days, but I do when I can.

Now let's get down to analyzing the results of my advertising so far.

The snapshots below were taken from my account on February 5, 2011

We'll look at the Safelists advertising first:

Safelist Results After Two Weeks Of Advertising

The only difference in the resources above, from the last article, is that I started a paid solo campaign with Herculist on Feb. 4th, and since that campaign didn't actually start until a few days after, we will ignore it for now. All the other resources are the same.

The Facts Speak For Themselves...

But what are they saying?

From a glance, certain resources are getting HUGE results, while others are dismal at best.

DamnSmartMail Safelists

Let's start with the DamnSmartMail Safelists. I started using them on January 26th, and out of 9 days (not counting Jan. 26th or Feb. 5th, since I took the snapshot in the morning), I only received 2 hits - Not Good, is it?

No, it's not, especially since the other resources seem to have done better, and some MUCH better! However, I will continue to use them for a while since they are the type of safelists that once you put your ad in, you can just login and send. Everything is saved, including the subject line AND most of them can be personalized (subject line and ad body).

The bottom line is this - When I'm running short on time, these are the last resources I'll get to, and if I don't get to them, the facts show that it won't matter much.

I mean, look at the statistics. Out of 9 days, and I'm using 21 safelists in this group, and I only have 2 results.

Now, don't get me wrong, the owner of the DamnSmartMail Safelists servers is Jane Mark. She is a serious marketer, and I have used some of her other resources, and will continue to watch and follow her movements. You can always learn from Jane, but in this case, the facts show that these safelists aren't panning out!

iPostAd Safelist Submitter

The next resource we're going to look at is iPostAd Safelist Submitter. It is owned and operated by Val Burnett, who I also have a LOT of respect for. Val was a major player in the internet marketing resources arena when I got into advertising online and she just keeps going...

But again, the facts speak for themselves. I started using iPostAd submitter on January 27th, and after 8 days (again, not counting the Jan. 27th or Feb. 5th), I've received 17 results.

That's better results compared to the DamnSmartMail safelists, but when you look at the fact that there are over 2,600 safelists, with a total membership of over 4,000,000 members (yes, FOUR MILLION), then 17 results isnt good at all - is it?!

Another issue here is that a lot of the lists in the iPostAd Safelist Submitter have only a couple thousand members each, and although I'm a Master level member of iPostAd, I'm a free member of the safelists, so even though I can submit to the safelists everyday thru iPostAd, my ad may actually only get to the members of each list once a week or so.

Will I continue to use iPostAd Safelist Submitter? You betcha! This is the first ad I've tested using iPostAd, and in years past, I would go thru the entire list of safelists (yes, it took me several weeks) and upgrade in the ones I thought I should so that my ad would get to their members more often. It worked. My response rate improved quite a bit.

At this point, you could argue that maybe, just maybe, it could be that my ad needs to be rewritten :-)

That's a possiblity, yes, but before we go to that conclusion, let's look at some more results...

J & R Solo Sender

J & R Solo Sender is the next resource, and in 11 days, I received 29 hits (results, clicks on the link in the ad, etc.). Is this better? Yes! Why? Because there are about only 270,000 members, so my ratio is much better with that safelist. Without going into any mathematical formulas :-) you can see that 29 hits from 270,000 is much better than 17 hits from 4,000,000.

Actually, out of those 2,600+ safelists that are in iPostAds submitters, the people are members of several of those safelists. I'm a member of all 2,600, so how many others are? But even if you cut that into a quarter, you're still talking about 1,000,000+ people. Right?

Yes, but there are many people that don't even look at their emails, etc., etc., etc. See, there are so many variables that need to be pondered over that it could be mind boggling. Is your head spinning yet? ;-)

The main thing I want to point out in this article is this - You want to how many people are clicking on those links to get to your page. That's it for now! Which resources are getting your ad to the people that are clicking on the link, and how often are they seeing that ad. It takes people an average of 7 times before they respond to an ad, so you need to get that ad in front of them as often as possible.

Now the other 3 resources (ListJoe, Maryanne Myers & the Regular Safelists groups) have an unfair advantage of the previous 3. Why? Because, they mostly credit based, and that's a whole different ball game! The mentality of the member is different on the credit based advertising, even if that same person is a member of regular safelists.

Let's take me for example. I use different resources - free, paid, credit based, regular, etc. Now as the member reading the emails, I don't have the time to read every single one (we're talking easily over 20,000+ daily), so when I do have time to read, I open my emails based on the subject line, mostly. There are times however, that I look for the credit based safelists, THEN look at the subject line. I do that when I don't have enough time, and/or need credits in certain lists. I'm a paid member in quite a few, but I am free in several, and paid or not, having credits in a safelist is always good for when you want to mail consistently.

ListJoe

ListJoe is a credit based safelist with just over 300,000 members, it has shown to be EXTREMELY responsive! Now here is the best part...

The trial mailing I did (for $7) was only to 10,000 members. Now credit based or not, 282 hits in 14 days is one heck of a response!

It is by far the best response I've seen in a long time!

Maryanne Myers

Maryanne Myers is another highly respected GIANT in internet marketing and her resources are varied. She has regular and credit based advertising resources - And my ads have ALWAYS pulled when using her resources. Her lists and submitters are VERY responsive!

Look at last week's and this week's results. Out of the 5 resources I used, with about 65,000 members, I've received 359 hits in 9 days. Great response!... And several of her resources are "Set It and Forget It", so as an upgraded member, I don't even have to login after I submit the ad the first day... but I do because she has interesting stuff on her sites. :-)

Regular Safelists

The Regular Safelists group also include both regular and credit based advertising. With an estimated 150,000+ total members in the 12 safelists, getting 491 hits in 14 days is really good. I'm pleased with it.

Now, let's look at the results of the Text Ad Exchanges:

Text Ad Exchange Results After Two Weeks Of Advertising

As with the safelists, there are notable differences with the results of the Text Ad Exchange advertising.

From a glance, the better pulling resources are the Solo ads, and they should be. All of the advertising shown above are credit based, so everything is equal there.

The difference is the Solo ads give the reader a lot more credits when they click on the link, so the results should be much greater. For example, wouldn't you click on the link that gives you 250 credits versus one that gives you 50? Yes! :-) So that's why you see such a large jump in response from the Solos versus the Regular Text Ads.

With the Text Link, you have to remember that these are 'one-liners'. You have to get the attention of the reader with just one line, so I normally use the same line that I use for the subject line in my safelist and solo ads.

Whether it's safelists, text ad exchanges, traffic exchanges, ezine ads, etc., the main goal here is to get my ad seen by people who will click on the link in the ad to get to the site. So whichever media gives that result to me, is the resource I will continue using.

So you can see that by utilizing ad trackers and analyzing the information they give you, you can advertise more effective. After several weeks of testing, you'll know if you ad is really pulling and which resources are responsive. That helps you in deciding if you need to rewrite your ad and/or which resources to keep using.

Ad trackers are a valuable tool in your internet marketing, so use them!

You can log into your TrafficWave account, read the training articles on them (there is even a training video on YouTube) and start using them today!

And ALWAYS keep tweaking your ad, change the subject line every so often, rewrite the ad totally, if necessary. Write several ads and test them all to see which one works the best, etc.

In future articles, we'll discuss topics that include tracking your ads from beginning to end, meaning seeing which resource and ad your customer came from. I've outright asked them where they saw the ad that joined from, but you can find out without asking them by using ad tracking.

We'll also discuss the differences in Regular Safelist advertising and Contact Solo advertising and when to use Contact Solo advertising (you don't want to use it all the time - It could be a huge waste of money!)
